County approves raised-bed community garden at Southwest Government Center

Pipestone County commissioners on April 22 approved a request to establish accessible raised-bed community gardens on county property adjacent to the Southwest Government Center building.
County staff said the project was proposed by Wright, an educator with the University of Minnesota Extension, and that a community volunteer will construct the garden beds. The proposed location is north of the building between the garages and would use an existing outdoor faucet for irrigation; staff said organizers plan to use drip irrigation and ensure raised beds are accessible to people with mobility impairments.
Commissioners approved the use of county property and access to water by voice vote. Staff will coordinate placement, construction timing and any maintenance expectations with the organizers.
