HRA staff updated the board on Gunflint View, a new residential development scheduled to open May 1 that will add rental units to the local housing supply. As of an April 9 count staff reported 26 units were already filled and eight additional residents were scheduled to move in on opening day.
Staff said studio apartments were spoken for and a small number of one‑ and two‑bedroom units remained available in the 80 percent area‑median‑income category; remaining units are market rate. The HRA director said he will seek demographic information about where new residents are coming from and their ages as occupancy stabilizes.
Board members said local media (WTIP) covered a recent open house and provided links to floor plans and unit availability. Commissioners praised volunteers and staff who finished final touches — painting and installing fixtures — ahead of the opening.
Staff also provided brief status updates on other projects in the director’s report: the Heights project expects site activity within weeks and a planned completion in September–October, staging and logistics are being coordinated; a Duval property developer is pursuing a land sale agreement with the city and a City Council meeting will consider that request.
