Alpine School District presents Accent on Excellence awards to teachers

Dr. Farnsworth, superintendent of the Alpine School District, presented Accent on Excellence awards to several teachers at a school assembly, praising their classroom work and support for colleagues.

The district honors a small number of teachers each year from among “thousands of teachers” in the Alpine School District, recognizing sustained excellence in instruction and leadership, Dr. Farnsworth said.

“We are actually here to honor you as 1 of our outstanding teachers,” Dr. Farnsworth told honorees. “And you were nominated and rose to the top as a recipient of that award.” He praised recipients for fostering creativity, collaboration, citizenship, character and critical thinking in their classrooms.

Students at the assembly described how the teachers affected their learning. “He makes physics fun and he makes it so you can understand it,” one student said about Mr. Greenwell. Other students said honorees made classes engaging, helped with schedules and supported classmates.

Dr. Farnsworth also presented a Principal of the Year recognition to Mr. Miller, saying, “This year, we're honoring mister Miller as our principal of the year for Alpine School District. He consistently makes every place he works a better place.” The superintendent credited Miller with raising student achievement and supporting teachers.

Other staff members recognized included Mrs. Larson and Mr. Dean; students offered brief, positive remarks about each honoree’s kindness, inclusiveness and classroom approach. The program noted that some honorees also mentor other teachers and pursue further study to improve their practice.

The assembly was ceremonial; no formal board actions or votes occurred during the presentation. The program closed with applause and short student testimonials about the recipients’ classroom impact.
