Todd, a presenter from Spokane International Airport, asked the Spokane City Council at its May 12 briefing to authorize a joint resolution with Spokane County to purchase roughly 1.62 acres at 5410 South Hayford Road.
"We are seeking authorization of a joint resolution with the city and the county to purchase about 1.62 acres of land located at 5410 South Hayford Road," Todd said. He said the parcel is zoned light industrial, sits in airport compatibility zone 3, and lies inside the airport's 65 LDN noise contour. An MAI appraisal valued the parcel at $282,500, Todd said.
Todd showed the parcel's proximity to existing airport property, nearby industrial development including an Amazon fulfillment center and a 40-acre facility slated to open, and noted that two similar small parcels adjacent to the site were purchased by the airport within the last six to seven months. He said the homeowner, Carolyn Parker, approached the airport to offer the property, making the seller cooperative.
The purchase was described as consistent with the airport master plan and the airport layout plan, which identify certain parcels as available or authorized for purchase to protect airport operations and manage compatibility with surrounding land uses. No final action was taken at the briefing; the item will appear on the consent agenda for council consideration.
No public testimony or additional appraisals were presented during the briefing.
