Commissioners approve three sheriff grants and Day Reporting Center grant application

Washington County commissioners voted unanimously to approve three grant applications supporting the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and to authorize the Day Reporting Center to apply for state funding.
Karsten Ahrens of the Office of Grant Management presented three Sheriff's Office requests. The board approved an application for a warrant-apprehension grant of $49,980 to fund overtime for targeted warrant sweeps and investigative work. Commissioners also approved a $29,500 FY‑26 domestic-violence unit grant to fund overtime and certified records personnel to enter protective orders into CJIS within the mandated 24-hour timeframe. Finally, the board approved an application for a $48,980 FY‑26 recruitment and retention grant from the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention, Youth, and Victim Services; the sheriff’s office said the funds would be used for recruitment and retention incentives and protective gear items.
All three grants were described as state funding administered through the governor’s office rather than federal pass-through funds.
Separately, the board authorized the Washington County Day Reporting Center to submit an application to the governor’s office of crime prevention for $270,000 and to accept award funding if offered. Megan Willis, director of the Day Reporting Center, and Karsten Ahrens presented the item and the board voted 4‑0 to approve the application submission.
All motions carried by a 4‑0 recorded vote.
