County sets letting dates for two road projects, approves multiple utility permits and notes bridge closure

Muscatine County engineering staff on May 5 set bid/letting dates for two road projects and approved several utility permits.
The board set a June 2 letting at 9 a.m. for the box-collar (RCV) culvert project on 160th Street (project L-GO-4--73-70) for twin 12-by-6-by-75-foot RCV collars. The board also set a June 23 letting at 9 a.m. for the Stewart Road PCC pavement removal-and-replace project (project LFMD-FR-6--7X-70); staff said the project is large and likely will have a late start date in April 2026 after staging and contractor scheduling considerations.
County engineer Brian Orchowski told the board the majority of county contracts use late-start-date scheduling, with a specified number of working days after the late start date and potential liquidated damages if the contractor exceeds allotted days.
The board approved four utility permits from Eastern Iowa Light and Power (Wilton, Iowa) including overhead-to-underground relocation for the 160th Street project, a replacement pole and two new service installs at separate addresses, and a bore under Bayview Road to replace overhead lines. The board also heard updates that Jim Schroeder Construction closed 120th Street for a bridge replacement and that an Aztec contractor planned to begin a microsurfacing project on 120th Street and North Mulberry pending dry weather.
Both lettings were approved by motion and voice roll calls on the record.
