Developer offers free assistance on workforce housing; announces Arizona Housing Focus nonprofit

During the public-comment portion of the council meeting, Steve Coffin of Torreon Realty described local efforts to create more affordable workforce housing and offered the firm’s services to the city at no charge.
Coffin said his team has been adapting home-building techniques used in custom construction to develop “a workforce housing type product” for middle-income families in Show Low. He said local builders accustomed to high-end homes have agreed to work on lower-cost plans and that the group is currently building homes and refining designs to reduce payments through financing strategies.
Coffin said he and partners have formed a nonprofit called Arizona Housing Focus “specifically for the purpose of educating, facilitating all of the different incentives that are available through the city, the state, the government, the lender, etcetera.” He said the group wants to help residents and lenders understand financing and incentive packages for homeownership.
Council members encouraged Coffin to continue meeting with city staff, including Steve North, to coordinate and possibly help developers navigate local processes. The remarks were part of the public-comment period; no council action or commitment of funds was made at the meeting.
