The superintendent said the proposed agreements mirror an existing arrangement with Grand Canyon University and extend the same mechanism to Arizona State University, the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University through the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR). “This is just a first reading,” Farnsworth said, adding the documents include confidentiality and data‑handling provisions and are intended to provide opportunities for juniors and seniors to receive proactive admissions information.
Board members asked about how recent the language in the agreements was and about the specifics of what the universities would receive; Farnsworth said the universities would receive items such as GPA and test scores and that students and parents would still be free to decline any outreach.
The board recorded a motion to approve the first reading; the board voted in favor. Because this was presented as a first reading, no final adoption of the underlying agreements occurred at this meeting.
The board did not approve any change to district data‑retention or public disclosure policy as part of the first reading; those legal details remain bound by the district’s standard confidentiality practices and any future board action.
