Committee recommends Michael Baker International for street-resurfacing engineering contract

The Administration and Finance Committee on April 28 voted to forward to full council a resolution authorizing the mayor to enter a contract with Michael Baker International for engineering and analysis services related to the city’s street-resurfacing program.
Mark Bates, the city’s public works director, told the committee the Purchasing Division issued a request for qualifications under West Virginia Code (Chapter 5) and the city received statements of qualifications from four firms, interviewed three, and recommended Michael Baker International as the most qualified. Bates said the scope includes specifications and designs for resurfacing projects, permitting, and preparation of bid and contracting documents. Funding for the contract will come from the Public Works street construction budget. Bates described the proposed contract as a one-year agreement with an option to renew for four additional one-year terms.
The committee voted to forward the resolution to full council with a favorable recommendation by voice vote; Miss Rumbaugh agreed to sponsor the resolution.
