Council awards municipal waste disposal contract to Rumpke of Ohio at $16.75/ton

Huntington City Council authorized the mayor to enter into a municipal waste disposal contract with Rumpke of Ohio after receiving three bids for the service.
Public Works Director Mark Bates told council the purchasing division issued a solicitation on Feb. 5 and received three bids by the March 28 deadline. Bids included Republic Services (Sycamore Landfill in Hurricane) at $38.50 per ton, Republic Services (Green Valley Landfill) at $23.00 per ton, and Rumpke of Ohio at $16.75 per ton. City staff recommended awarding the contract to Rumpke of Ohio.
Bates said the contract will be a one-year term starting May 1 with the option for four additional one-year renewals. The contract will be funded from the sanitation trash contracted services line in the city budget. The sanitary sewage and recycling committee forwarded the recommendation with a favorable report and council approved the resolution by voice vote.
