Connecticut Health Professionals for Climate Action (CHIPCA) told coalition members the group is expanding training and advocacy for clinicians and public-health professionals and will host a conference on Oct. 18 at Hartford Hospital.
Dr. Mark Mitchell, speaking about the Connecticut Health Professionals for Climate Action (CHIPCA), described the health impacts of climate change and a mnemonic he uses to frame effects: direct heat effects; exacerbation of cardiac and respiratory disease; asthma; traumatic injury; water- and foodborne illness; allergies; vectorborne disease; and emotional and mental-health effects. He told listeners that clinical voices are persuasive with the public and policymakers and that CHIPCA provides short trainings, virtual meetings and opportunities to sign on to policy letters.
Mitchell said the group is holding its first conference on Saturday, Oct. 18, at Hartford Hospital and that clinicians and public-health professionals should register via the group’s website. He also said CHIPCA maintains a mailing list and will continue to issue occasional calls for action and opportunities to engage in policymaking.
The presentation included an invitation for coalition members to join CHIPCA’s mailing list, help plan the October conference, or participate in the group’s legislative outreach and public-information efforts.
