Agency staff reported several administrative and outreach initiatives at the Jan. 9 Sayreville Economic Redevelopment Agency meeting, including the launch of a podcast and social-media presence, a planned reimbursement for sidewalk repairs and draft outreach letters to property owners in downtown and designated redevelopment areas.
The executive director said podcast equipment has arrived and been tested; the first episode will introduce SARA and its functions and staff indicated the equipment will be available to borrow for other users. Staff said the agency has launched Facebook and Instagram pages to provide regular updates on projects, meeting schedules and community engagement opportunities.
On sidewalk repairs, the executive director reported that the borough engaged Accurate Concreting to remove and replace 220 square feet of damaged sidewalk on Seville Boulevard. The agency plans to reimburse the borough $6,600 for that work at the February meeting; staff said the work is already completed and that the reimbursement will be presented formally next month.
Staff also said two draft letters were prepared for distribution to property owners: one to downtown stakeholders inviting input on downtown revitalization (explicitly described as a revitalization—not a redevelopment—project) and a second letter for property owners in areas recommended for ‘‘area in need of redevelopment’’ designation, clarifying the process and emphasizing that designation does not involve condemnation. Commissioners asked that the agency share drafts before mailing and that communications avoid implying forced acquisition.
Why it matters: The communications rollout and targeted outreach letters are intended to solicit property-owner buy-in for downtown and River Road initiatives and to increase transparency about redevelopment processes. The sidewalk reimbursement is a small expenditure from agency funds that addresses a public-safety/maintenance need.
Other notes: Staff reported the agency has appointed Kevin Delina as communications/public-relations person and that a new website (sarahnj.gov) is planned. The public-comment rules for the meeting were read aloud in accordance with NJSA 10:4-12a; no members of the public spoke during the public-comment period.
