London — The Capital Projects and Bond Oversight Committee received a report on April 3 about planned renovations at Kentucky State Police Post 11 in London, Ky., funded from the state maintenance pool.
Janice Thomas, deputy state budget director, told the committee the total project is $1,138,000, funded from the 2024–26 maintenance pool ($1,088,000) and a 2022–24 maintenance pool carryover ($50,000). She said the work includes flat-roof replacement, exterior window replacement, sealing the evidence room, structural repairs (steel beam and column replacement), exterior lighting and signage replacement, HVAC humidity corrections, sealing and painting brick, and converting an old garage area to secure storage and office space that will include a secure interview/interrogation room.
Committee members asked whether the repairs would extend the facility’s usable life and where the post sits in the agency’s replacement schedule. Captain Kevin Johnson of the Kentucky State Police (joined the call) said the work is intended as a long-term investment; Post 11 is likely two to three budget cycles away from being considered for replacement and, if funded for replacement, construction would take another approximately 36 months after funding — putting full replacement “10 years or more down the road,” Thomas said.
No formal committee action was required; the item was reported to the committee as a pool allocation greater than $1,000,000 and recorded for the record.
