The Henry County School Board unanimously approved new instructional materials for elementary and secondary math and for K–5 reading, following committee review and teacher pilots.
For kindergarten through fifth grade math the board approved adoption of Kiddom, which presenters said showed 91% alignment to the Virginia Standards of Learning and will be used in both print and digital formats. Teachers from each elementary school served on the adoption committee and will work with the CIP consortium to supplement any standards not fully represented and to coordinate pacing. Kiddom staff will provide professional development in August, presenters said.
For grades 6 through Algebra II the board approved Mathspace Virginia after committee pilots and teacher feedback. Presenters said Mathspace was the only program with complete alignment across evaluated secondary courses, includes a digital platform with an AI-powered tutor, and will be customized to the CIP pacing guides. The committee recommended a multi-year adoption with digital and printed resources and ongoing teacher training.
The board also approved Benchmark Advance for K–5 reading and language arts, selected after classroom trials and committee review; the program will be used for seven years and include both print and digital resources. Presenters noted that third- through fifth-grade students will receive tangible books under the new adoption.
Each adoption was presented by curriculum coordinators and approved by motion and voice vote. Board members thanked the teachers, reading specialists, and committee members who participated in pilots and reviews.
All adoptions include professional development plans to prepare teachers before the 2025–26 school year. The board did not disclose contract amounts in the meeting record.
