Mayor Bill Heidemann and city staff presented a proclamation May 1 honoring the Corinth Youth Advisory Council (YAC) for its community service and engagement.
A YAC adviser (speaker on the record) told council the council had 13 members that year and that the group had volunteered at more than six city events, including Shamrock and Roll, Potover Fest and Boots and Brews. The adviser said YAC members hosted a Little Libraries book drive that yielded over 450 donated books to stock the city’s five little libraries.
The proclamation text included a statement that the council “has provided over 250 hours of community service since its establishment,” while the YAC adviser also said during remarks that, “they all together have held over 50 volunteer hours,” creating a discrepancy between the proclamation language and the adviser’s spoken summary. The transcript records both statements; the meeting record does not resolve the difference.
The YAC adviser also identified students by first names and described seniors who will graduate and their college plans. The adviser thanked Karen Warholt for coordinating meetings and activities; the proclamation and staff recognized the youth volunteers and their adviser for their service.
Mayor Heidemann invited YAC members to come forward for a photo with the council. No formal council action was required to issue the proclamation.
