Special Magistrate Stephanie Marchman on May 1 granted the City of Lake City’s request to give the owner of 495 Northwest Palm Drive a 90-day period to repair major storm-related structural damage to a house on the property.
City staff reported that a tree had fallen on the house and that weather was penetrating the structure, causing interior damage. A permit for storm repair was issued on Jan. 2 after an owner applied on Dec. 30, 2024; photographs in the file showed the owner had started work but no inspections had been completed by building officials as of the hearing.
The city asked the magistrate to allow a 90-day period for repairs, with a $50-per-day fine to begin on day 91 if repairs were not finished, and administrative mailing/postage costs of $28.92. Marchman said she would order what the city requested and the order was entered accordingly.
The magistrate’s order requires the owner to complete repairs within 90 days and allows the city to assess a $50 daily fine beginning after that period if the structure is not repaired. The city will monitor the property and perform inspections as required under the permit.
