Council approves $154,000 contingency use for Murfreesboro Transit Center

The Murfreesboro City Council on May 1 approved a change directive that uses $154,000 from the contingency allowance for the Murfreesboro Transit Center contract to cover additional work and an extension in time.
City staff said the change directive (Change Directive No. 9) draws on the contingency allowance approved in the original contract to pay for a long-distance burglar alarm, additional ADA sidewalk work, the purchase of an exterior concrete sealer to protect concrete from winter salt, and additional workdays needed to substantially complete the project. Staff said the contingency use will not change the contracts total amount of $17,845,843.
"Constructing a transit center will allow for continued improvements and expansion of transit services," a staff presenter said, and described the task as serving council priorities for infrastructure and economic development.
Council action: Council moved, seconded and approved the change directive by roll call; all five members present voted "aye." Staff said the final contract value and time extension will be adjusted in the final balance and change order at project closeout.
Ending: The council approved the contingency allocation; staff will finalize the closeout accounting and report final contract adjustments when construction is complete.
