Clover Park outlines summer-school calendar and new Running Start partnership with Clover Park Technical College
Summary
District set summer-school dates, described targeted enrollment and funding sources and announced a Running Start–style partnership with Clover Park Technical College offering up to 18 college credits in several CTE programs.
Clover Park School District staff presented the district’s summer-school plan for 2025 and introduced a new partnership with Clover Park Technical College to offer rising 11th and 12th graders college-level CTE courses.
Director Susie Contos and Career and College/CTE Director Tim Stultz told the board summer school will run June 24–July 11 (no school July 4) and will prioritize “extended learning opportunities for our most highly impacted students” identified via assessment data (STAR, SBA and classroom assessments). The district said it used a formula identifying roughly 15 percent of the most‑impacted students at on‑base schools and capped identification at 20 percent for off‑base schools; projected enrollment numbers presented in the workshop included 77 students across identified on‑base elementary schools and a total of 206 for off‑base elementary schools (five schools capped at 20 percent), and a projected total of 200 middle‑school seats; credit retrieval locations for high‑school students were also identified.
Staff outlined meal and transportation arrangements (a bus running between the Boys & Girls Club and 4 Heroes Elementary) and said the district will provide take‑and‑go breakfasts and sit‑down lunches through its nutrition services department. Funding sources for summer programming include Title I for off‑base schools, braided DoDEA grants and district extended‑learning funds for on‑base schools, Career and Technical Education funding for the middle‑school program and LAP funds supporting credit retrieval.
In a separate presentation, the district announced a partnership with Clover Park Technical College that will let students earn college credit in four programs aligned with district CTE offerings: mechatronics, construction trades, environmental science (including HAZWOPER certification and wetlands work) and a Nursing Assistant Certification program. The district said students can earn up to 18 credit hours in several of the programs (9 credit hours for the nursing assistant track), and that Clover Park Technical College is covering additional credit hours beyond the state’s 1.4 FTE allotment. The presenter said the district will pay for industry‑recognized credential testing and will waive some program fees for students eligible for free and reduced-price lunch; the district also plans to provide scrubs and boots and issue laptops where needed.
Board members asked about device access for summer learning (staff said students currently use devices they have at home but staff are still evaluating loaner options) and certification costs (the district said it pays for industry‑recognized credential testing). The presenter said initial participation estimates range from 70 to mid‑80s students for the new Clover Park Technical College partnership and up to 200 total for high‑school credit retrieval programs; staff said last year only eight students participated in a similar offering conducted without the district partnership.
Why it matters: The summer program and college partnership expand targeted remediation, enrichment and career pathways for students and include district funding commitments for meals, transportation and credentials.
Ending: Staff said they will continue communicating program details to families via flyers, Peachjar and school counselors and will provide learning packets and platform access for students not attending in‑person summer school.
