City outlines multi-year IT plan: records management, ERP and utility-billing upgrades

City information-technology staff presented a multi-year enterprise software roadmap that includes a records management system, replacement of financial and human-resources systems with an enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform, and reviews of permitting and asset-management software.
An IT presenter said the city supports roughly 300 computer systems, dozens of servers and dozens of network devices across 10 facilities. The presentation listed current and near-term projects: a records management implementation, a multi-year ERP selection and rollout expected to extend at least three years, enterprise asset-management evaluations and permitting-software reviews. Staff also flagged training and governance work to keep employee skills current.
IT staff said the utility-billing conversion completed in December 2023 was a large effort because the city runs six separate utilities and finding a vendor that could manage all six narrowed the options. The presenter said the ERP selection and implementation will be a large undertaking to replace payroll, payables, receivables, the general ledger and related financial functions.
No procurement decisions were made during the orientation; staff said the ERP replacement will require a formal RFP and an extended implementation period.
