Committee approves $211,699.04 to recoup first-quarter lab staff costs; one member abstains

The Kane County Ad Hoc Opioid Settlement Fund Committee on May 1 voted to recoup $211,699.04 from the settlement fund to cover expenses for two forensic laboratory technicians and a lab director for the first quarter of 2025.

Committee members noted the expense had been previously approved in 2024 as an allowable use of settlement funds. One committee member recorded an abstention on the motion because the funds flow back to the sheriff’s office; the chair called the roll for the record. Committee members also praised the two laboratory staff cited by name in discussion for their contributions to establishing county testing capacity.

Staff confirmed the dollar figure on the record and the committee completed a roll-call vote. The committee did not attach additional conditions to the reimbursement; staff will process the transfer consistent with previously approved allowable-expense rules for the opioid settlement fund.
