Cypress‑Fairbanks ISD finance staff reviewed the district’s fund‑balance recap and budget amendments during the May 1 work session and answered trustees’ questions about how to read the fund‑balance tables.
Karen and Scott, district finance staff, explained the fund‑balance recapitulation shows beginning fund balance, adopted deficit amounts and subsequent quarterly amendments. Karen clarified that the columns in the fund‑balance recap stand alone for each fund (general, food service, special revenue, debt service, bond, enterprise), rather than a cumulative left‑to‑right total.
Trustees also asked about construction and bond‑fund projects on the consent agenda. Jesse, facilities staff, briefed the board on a Sprague windstorm roof replacement project that is part of a larger FEMA claim related to tornado/windstorm damage in May of the prior year; he said the district expects roughly 75% of the project cost to be reimbursed by FEMA.
Finance staff noted that one E‑rate reimbursement was used to offset costs on a firewall project that otherwise might have been bond‑funded. Trustees asked clarifying questions and staff said they would continue to provide line‑item explanations for quarterly reports.
No votes were recorded on these specific explanations during the work session; related consent‑agenda items (budget amendments, construction contracts, and FEMA‑related repairs) appeared on the regular meeting agenda for action.
