County accepts donated right of way on Cottonwood Road for curve widening

Highway Administrator Miss Beetles told the Christian County Commission that Marvin and Nancy Parson have agreed to donate right of way along Cottonwood Road in the Common 1 Road District to allow the county to widen two reverse 90-degree curves and extend culverts.
Miss Beetles said the donation letter lists several accommodations the county will make in exchange: the county will place new sectioned-steel corner posts behind the right-of-way line, preserve three existing corner posts and a corner gate the Parson family requested remain undisturbed, install an asphalt apron in front of the mailbox, and pay for recording the conveyance documents. She noted one requested item — a water gap outside the culvert extension at the property/right-of-way line — is not standard practice but would be installed at the donors’ request.
Commissioners described the curve as tight and welcomed the donation as a cost-saving alternative to acquiring the land through purchase. A motion to accept the conveyance of the right of way carried on voice vote. Miss Beetles said county staff will sign the documents after the meeting.
