At a Needham Cultural Council meeting, the treasurer reported that grants from the 2023โ24 cycle have been processed and that, for the current year, four grants were fully processed and one was submitted recently. The treasurer said town-controlled grant funds total $11,504 and Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC) funds total $9,400; she also said some processed grants this year amount to $3,780.
Council members were told that Town of Needham grant funds will expire on June 30 and that MCC funds remain available until the end of the year. The treasurer and staff urged grantees who have already held events to submit reimbursement paperwork promptly so accounting can process the claims before municipal deadlines.
Council members discussed a recurring grantee, the Arlequin Player Theatre, noting the group uses annual grant money for operating expenses and that its event is scheduled in June; members asked staff to confirm receipts and qualifying expenditures for reimbursement. Staff said accounting staff (Michelle and JP) will process reimbursements and may move funds between lines where necessary, but emphasized the council must match approved award amounts to receipts.
The treasurer and council also noted that some events have taken place without paperwork filed; members asked to follow up with those groups. No changes to grant policy were proposed during the meeting.
