District outlines marquee replacements and construction schedule; trustees discuss surveying community on potential bond

District business and facilities staff updated the Lawndale board on facilities projects May 1 and trustees discussed whether to survey the community about a potential facilities bond.

Facilities update: A business department representative said the district plans to begin digital marquee replacements in June at Jane Addams and Anderson; the goal is to replace marquees at all remaining sites next year. Staff reported that PACE construction at Green Elementary is nearing completion and that PACE will then move to Anderson. The presentation noted a new bungalow will be placed at the back of Anderson and that the existing building at that site will become a new home for RAP.

Trustees discussed a possible future bond measure to address facility needs raised during a recent site walk‑through, including concerns about outdated fire alarm systems, deteriorated asphalt and multiple layers of paint on walls. Trustee Phillips asked whether staff would survey the community to test support and identify a potential cap the community would back; Superintendent Castro and staff said a survey is on the district’s radar and that the board will be updated before any survey is conducted.
