Central kindergarten teacher Jill Barber named Teacher of the Year

Mrs. Jill Barber, a kindergarten teacher at Central, was honored as Teacher of the Year in a recognition segment where colleagues described her classroom as creative, engaging and student-centered.

Colleagues gave five reasons they said make Barber deserving of the title: creativity, engagement, advocacy, compassion and fun. One speaker said, “Missus Barber is the definition of kindergarten magic. Every day walking in her classroom is an adventure.”

Another commenter praised Barber’s classroom energy and connection with students: “She inspires, she uplifts, and she transforms. Thank you, Mrs. Barber, for being a light for so many at Central.” Speakers highlighted Barber’s advocacy for students and her patient, supportive approach. As one speaker put it, “Every student who walks through her door knows they are valued.”

Remarks noted Barber’s use of themed attire, surprises and humor to make learning joyful. “Her students don’t just learn,” a speaker said during the presentation, “she doesn’t just teach, she nurtures, uplifts, and she brings learning to life.” Several colleagues offered brief personal comments about Barber’s positive energy and the everyday effect she has on students and staff.

The recognition segment consisted of multiple short remarks from staff and colleagues clustered together; no formal action, vote or policy decision was taken during the segment. The event ended with staff offering congratulations to Barber.
