Trustee Marshalski outlined a slate of events and fundraisers tied to Riverside’s sesquicentennial during the Village of Riverside Board of Trustees meeting Thursday, May 1.
Marshalski described a Mother’s Day Higgins glass plate drawing with tickets priced at $10, available at the Quincy Street Community Center, village offices, the Riverside Public Library or online; the drawing is scheduled the day after the tickets stop selling on Sunday, May 4. She also said the deadline to order a dedicated caplet for the year-end time capsule was extended to Friday, May 9 and that caplets cost $150.
Marshalski said a spring photo contest themed on eco-friendly actions will accept entries through June 20 and provided an email contact for submissions. She announced a Riverside sesquicentennial BioBlitz on May 17, describing it as a “150-year accounting of all the flora and fauna in Riverside” with sessions starting at 9 a.m. at the library. Marshalski urged businesses, community groups and families to sponsor events and noted that commitments made by May 12 would help planning.
Marshalski closed by encouraging community participation, saying, “Let’s make Riverside history together.” The board did not take formal action on the items; they were presented as committee reports and community announcements during the trustee report portion of the meeting.
