Students win cash awards in Incubator EDU pitch competition; De Vries teaching academy to be recognized

Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Scott used her April 28 report to highlight student programs and recent competitions, including the district’s fourth annual Incubator EDU pitch competition.
“It’s that Shark Tank style program where students compete and present their innovative business ideas,” Dr. Scott said, describing the event and naming winners. Tavares High School’s team won first place for “Sip and Stash,” a pill-and-vitamin holder that attaches to a water bottle; Mount Dora High School tied for first place with “StyleCraft Ideas,” a personal-styling chatbot. Both first-place teams received $500. East Ridge High School won the people’s choice award for a phone case with a built-in GPS tracker and received $200.
Dr. Scott thanked mentors, judges from the business community, the office of college and career readiness, and sponsors listed in the meeting record: the Education Foundation, Cherry Lake, Chick‑fil‑A and Addition Financial. She also noted that De Vries High School will celebrate students who completed the teaching academy program at an event the following day.
The incubator awards are cash prizes for student teams; the board did not take action on the program during the meeting. Dr. Scott’s report also mentioned upcoming graduations and teacher appreciation week, and the district’s dual-enrollment graduates at Lake–Sumter State College.
