Lake County Schools recognizes media specialists during School Library Month; six schools named Florida Power Library Schools

The Lake County School Board recognized media specialists and school libraries at its April 28 meeting in observance of School Library Month.
“April is School Library Month. A time where we celebrate the vital role of school libraries and media specialists play in supporting literacy, inquiry, and student achievement,” said Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Scott, introducing the recognition. Dr. Scott said libraries are “dynamic centers for creativity, collaboration and academic support” and announced that six district schools had been recognized as Florida Power Library Schools by the Florida Association of Supervisors of Media and the Florida Department of Education.
Dr. Scott invited instructional materials manager Kelly Dodd and program specialist Bridgette Marshburn forward to be recognized for supporting the district’s library staff. “I just wanna reiterate the impact that these individuals have on literacy and supporting our students,” she said, and singled out both staff members for their efforts.
During the recognition, Board member Doctor Luke shared a personal anecdote about the influence of school librarians, saying he remembered his child’s librarian fondly and praising media specialists’ role across an entire school. The board applauded media specialists and invited them forward for thanks and handshakes.
The district said a short video highlighting School Library Month would be released after the meeting; no board action was required for the recognition.
