Hamilton County commissioners on May 1, 2025, read a proclamation recognizing May as Building Safety Month. County staff and commissioners used the proclamation to highlight the role of building plan examiners, registered architects and engineers, building inspectors, and customer service staff who administer permits and inspections to protect residents and businesses.
Presenters noted the county launched a new online permitting system in February and reported nearly 1,500 applications since going live. Speakers said online permitting and continued training for inspectors make it easier for residents to comply with code requirements and protect their financial investments. Speakers urged residents to obtain permits for home projects; staff and commissioners said unpermitted work may be denied insurance coverage and pose safety and financial risks.
The proclamation concluded with remarks urging residents to "DIY it safely" during the summer season and a planned photo with commissioners and staff.
