County IT recommends NetPlanner for prison camera upgrade; commissioners to consider on consent agenda

Jacob Parson, Carroll County IT director, presented a request to accept a contractor proposal to upgrade the camera system at the county prison. "We're asking for the proposal, from NetPlanner, be accepted, so that he can upgrade his systems," Parson said at the May 1 work session.
Parson said the county obtained three quotes. NetPlanner's proposal was $76,299.24; Convergent's quote was $73,739.95 but did not include $8,000 of user training and had additional optional fees for fiber network enclosure and as-built drawings; NextGen quoted $94,973. Parson and the warden recommended NetPlanner because the company is semi-local (Peachtree Corners, Ga.), employs some Carroll County residents, and its price includes necessary items that Convergent would bill separately.
Parson told commissioners that the IT department expects to be able to maintain and service the upgraded system rather than contract outside maintenance. "We do feel confident that we can maintain this system for many years," he said, declining to discuss security details.
Commissioners agreed to place the NetPlanner recommendation on the Tuesday consent agenda for formal action. No procurement contract was executed at the work session.
