Board authorizes solicitor for commercial realtor proposals but requires surveyor boundaries first

The Washington County Board of Education authorized staff to solicit proposals from commercial realtors to assist with potential school-property sales, and during debate the board amended the motion to require a survey and a clear identification of parcels before moving to select a realtor.

Board members argued the district should know exactly which lots or boundaries it plans to sell before engaging a realtor. One trustee’s amendment asked staff to bring a surveyor and to identify the precise lots and boundaries to be offered; the amendment carried on a vote (the transcript records the amendment passed with two no votes).

Several trustees said they expected the district to proceed with a request for proposals but to use the survey results as part of the realtor selection process and recommended that the realtor be available to advise on lot configuration. Staff said advertisement timing would be modest — typically a week or 10 days — and that interviews with prospective realtors and a final selection would likely be scheduled after the board’s next workshop.

The board instructed staff to coordinate a workshop or special call meeting to review survey results and candidate realtors before any formal selection. Staff said they would advertise the RFP and simultaneously move forward on the survey so the board could conduct interviews and make a selection with accurate parcel information.

No sale or listing agreements were authorized at Thursday’s meeting; the vote was to advertise for realtor proposals with the procedural amendment requiring surveyor work and clarified parcel boundaries prior to final selection.
