School committee declares ELA materials surplus, approves contingent removal pending CKLA adoption

At the May 1 meeting the committee first moved to "dispose of the outdated unused ELA materials," listing Fountas & Pinnell developmental reading kits, assessment kits and leveled literacy intervention kits; that motion passed 5-0. The committee then voted 5-0 to remove or repurpose additional ELA materials (named in the presentation) contingent on the town meeting adoption of the Amplify CKLA ELA program.
District staff said the materials targeted for disposal are past their useful life and that the move would free storage space as the district prepares to deploy Amplify CKLA boxes when the curriculum adoption is finalized. Business and finance staff who attended Ways and Means reported back that subcommittee discussion produced generally positive votes on the warrant articles connected to the curriculum work; one subcommittee tie was noted for a scoreboard article unrelated to curriculum.
Committee members directed staff to follow procurement and surplus-property procedures before removal and to coordinate timing with the town meeting vote on CKLA so that contingent removals would only occur after formal adoption.
