Anaris Ross, human services program supervisor with Senior Nutrition Services, Union County, said the program provides meals to county residents who are 60 and older and depends on local volunteers. "Union County's Senior Nutrition Program provides nutritious meals to residents in our county who are 60 years and over," Ross said.
Ross described how the delivery volunteer role works: "Volunteers deliver 29 routes a day, and it's simple. You arrive at the meal site, you pick up your cooler and hot bag, and deliver it to the homes on your route." She said a single route "may take an hour, even under," and volunteers return the cooler and hot bag to the meal site when finished.
The announcement framed the work as time-limited and routine: Ross said the typical route can be completed in about an hour and thanked volunteers, saying, "We are so grateful for our volunteers. We could not do this without you." The county did not specify required training, background checks, or whether volunteers are reimbursed for mileage.
This notice serves as a call to action for residents interested in supporting older neighbors with meal delivery; the program currently runs 29 delivery routes each day and relies on volunteers to pick up and return meal coolers and hot bags at central meal sites.
