Lancaster County installs book locker at Del Webb Library to expand pickup hours

Lancaster County has installed a book locker at the Del Webb Library to allow residents to pick up holds outside regular branch hours, county Communications Manager Gary Baker said.
Baker said the locker expands access and convenience for patrons, allowing people to park close to the locker, pick up materials without going inside the building and use the service on weekends. "This is a huge improvement. This is a huge benefit for accessibility. It provides additional hours where people can pick up their library materials," Baker said.
County communications described the locker as a way to stretch local budget dollars by combining a local match with outside grant funds. "All departments in the county work in securing grants that bring additional resources into the county," Baker said, adding that a 20% local match can unlock roughly 80% from external sources. County staff said the equipment could be considered for the main Lancaster library and the Kershaw branch in the future.
The announcement also noted the ribbon-cutting coincided with National Library Week and introduced Talley as the new branch manager at Del Webb. County staff emphasized the locker was intended to improve access for parents with young children, patrons using golf carts and other residents who benefit from shorter walks to pick up holds.
No formal policy changes, votes or contract awards were announced at the time of the update.
