Town staff and consultants said the project remains at a concept stage and that no final design has been selected. "We're still in a concept plan process when it comes to the pilot, so we have not finalized any designs, and we're not at design level detail," said Charis Las Vegas, DPW staff, who opened the presentation and described the outreach schedule, including a May 1 business meeting and a public hearing on May 13.
Why it matters: the plan would reallocate portions of the existing right-of-way to expand sidewalks, add street trees and a bike facility described in the meeting as "lit lanes" (light individual transport lanes for bikes and micromobility). That reallocation requires trade-offs among parking, pedestrian space and cycling accommodations — and some downtown businesses told the group they fear losing convenient on-street spaces they rely on for takeout customers and deliveries.
Consultants from Apex and project designers presented a refined concept that emphasizes a simplified, repeatable cross section, staggered on-street parking, mid-block crosswalks and activated corners with expanded sidewalks for seating, planters and shade.
