Key approved items included the meeting minutes for April 15, 2025; a floodplain permit submitted by the soil and water conservation district for a culvert/embankment project (permit 2025753 for Jeffrey Frazier); appropriations transfers dated April 22, 2025 (under $75,000) submitted by Dylan Bentley; receipt and filing of the Department of Child and Family Services monthly report ending March 25, 2025; a $4.80-per-hour wage increase for Lauren Horner to reflect additional HR and fiscal responsibilities; hiring Caitlin Speakman as a part-time paramedic; appointment of Freddie Hayes Jr. to the Lawrence Regional Planning Commission for a three-year term beginning May 1, 2025; and a resolution authorizing participation in the 2025 road-salt contracts. A petition and president’s signature request for annexation of properties related to a Gateway Outdoor project were called up but tabled so the board could obtain more information. The commission moved into an executive session later in the meeting regarding personnel and firefighter recommendations.
Vote tallies recorded at the meeting: for most routine motions the commissioners voted unanimously in the affirmative. Notable exceptions: Commissioner Mike Finley registered an abstention on the April 22 appropriations transfers; the motion carried with two affirmative votes.
