The Cocoa Beach City Commission approved a resolution enacting a moratorium on enforcement of the city sign ordinance relating to certain noncommercial signs 60 days before any election and for three days after an election.
City staff said the change does not alter the city’s limits on sign size, placement, or commercial signage; it instead modifies the timing and administrative burden for permits related to candidate and noncommercial election signs so staff are not required to issue a permit for each sign during the specified period. City staff said the measure is intended to clarify rules that previously applied only to municipal elections and to make enforcement consistent for other elections now occurring in the city.
Commissioners approved the resolution by voice vote, and staff reiterated that signs placed in rights-of-way, attached to utility poles, or exceeding allowable sizes would remain violations.
