City economic development staff reported on outreach at a recent multi‑unit franchising conference in Las Vegas, describing how staff meet franchise representatives and gather market and demographic requirements to recruit retailers and restaurants to Kingman.
The staff attendee said the conference hosted more than 300 franchise brands and provided opportunities to speak with regional representatives who sign up franchisees. Staff said the outreach helps explain Kingman’s market, demographics and available sites and can prompt franchise representatives to include Kingman in regional growth plans.
Staff shared preliminary results of a retail survey and community preferences: top restaurant requests included Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse and Red Robin; retailers respondents most often named Costco, Sam’s Club and Hobby Lobby; grocery requests included Trader Joe’s, Aldi and Sprouts. Staff also highlighted that an El Pollo Loco franchise is coming to Kingman with a projected Memorial Day opening and that the local franchisee, identified as Sal, received recognition at the conference.
Commissioners asked about route‑themed franchise concepts and specific leads; staff said discussions about Route 66‑themed store formats do occur in recruitment conversations and that staff will continue to follow up with companies that expressed interest.
