ADOT details interchange, bridge and paving projects in Mohave County; some work to start this summer

Arizona Department of Transportation officials presented an update to the Tri City Council in Kingman on April 30 outlining multiple construction, bridge and pavement preservation projects in Mohave County and nearby corridors.
ADOT said the West Kingman traffic interchange (TI) and associated flyover work are moving forward and that completion of major elements should improve traffic flow over the coming years. “When this project gets completed in a couple of years, you're gonna see a big improvement in the area,” said Todd Steinberger, assistant district engineer, ADOT.
ADOT listed several near-term items: the eastbound bridge deck replacement at the East Kingman TI is slated for completion in early June; the Rancho Santa Fe TI currently has detours in place while the westbound bridge is being widened and substructure work proceeds; and bids for a Sunrise median safety project in the Lake Havasu area recently opened with construction expected to begin this summer.
The department also described multiple pavement-preservation projects and estimated costs: an approximately $17,000,000 preservation project east of the Kingman TI on I-40, a roughly $44,000,000 preservation project near Pleasureta Creek to Date Creek (south of Wickenburg), and a tentative $108,000,000 project for a segment of US 93 that ADOT is trying to advance into fiscal year 2026 from fiscal year 2027. ADOT said paving work on the I-40 Needle Mountain TI was completed and that other projects are expected to continue over the next year to 18 months.
ADOT highlighted larger modernization efforts under design, including a planned four‑lane divided segment at Big Jim Wash (roughly $110,000,000, slated for FY26) and the Vista Royale four‑lane divided project north of Wickenburg. ADOT said it is still working with the city of Kingman on the I-40 Kingman Crossing interchange.
In response to a question about the section of US 93 north of Kingman known locally as Sanctuary Road, Steinberger said the segment is being moved earlier in ADOT's program and is expected to be advertised for construction in July of this year. He said the problematic section is roughly milepost 48 north of Kingman: “It is approximately mile post, 48.”
ADOT warned that active construction and detours will cause temporary congestion and urged residents to send maintenance complaints to ADOT so crews can track recurring issues. The department provided photos and maps of recent progress on girders, bridge piers and paving during its update.
