The staff presenter said the county board approved the agreement on Jan. 28 and that participating jurisdictions — Benson, Willcox, Bisbee, Douglas and Sierra Vista — join to synchronize advertising buys and maintain a shared online presence (explorecochise). “With CCTEC funding, funded $44,795 which resulted in over $89,000 of advertising,” the presenter said, listing examples such as international advertising to Canada and Mexico, Smithsonian video and banner ads, streaming ads and placements in Bird Watchers Digest and Arizona Highways magazine.
Staff said Sierra Vista currently serves as the administrative agent for the CCTEC and receives reimbursement for half of the tourism coordinator position (Lauren Healy) and creative/production work produced by city staff. Remaining cities and the county must approve their portions of the annual budget; staff said the IGA sets the framework and annual budgets are approved separately by each participant.
Why it matters: the IGA pools limited local advertising dollars for greater reach through state co-op funding and shared materials, boosting tourism promotion for Cochise County and participating cities.
