Resolution No. 4554: early retirement of university building debt

Council voted 7–0 to adopt Resolution No. 4554, which authorizes the town to set aside funds and take necessary legal steps to pay off debt issued in February 2015 tied to the university building downtown. Mayor Scott Anderson described the move as a demonstration of strong financial management and said the payoff reduces future interest costs and obligations.

Town staff described the amount as roughly $29,000,000 to $30,000,000, with about $2,000,000 coming from the debt service reserve fund and the remainder from the general fund to retire the debt early. The town manager later told the council that early payoff will avoid approximately $15,400,000 in future interest costs.

The motion to approve Resolution No. 4554 was made during the public hearing portion of the agenda and carried 7–0.
