Glynn County commissioners approved a refund to Morning Star Children and Family Services for park rental and cleaning fees paid for a community fundraising event at Gascoigne Bluff Park on March 15, 2025.
County staff introduced Laura Kitchens of Morning Star, who described the organization—s residential and youth services and asked the county to consider Morning Star for future fee waivers so the nonprofit can continue fundraising. —For almost 80 years, Boys— estate, youth estate, and now Morningstar has served the children in this community and around the state,— Kitchens said, describing Morning Star—s campus, cottages and programming. She said the March event —Grilling in the Golden Isles— combined food trucks and a grilling competition to raise funds.
Staff explained the $300 the organization paid consisted of a $250 nonprofit park rental fee and a $50 park-cleaning fee. The committee made and seconded a motion to approve the refund request; the motion was approved by voice vote (all in favor).
No additional policy changes or follow-up actions were recorded in the meeting minutes. Staff said the organization will be placed on the list to be considered for future fee waivers as appropriate.
