The Lyon County Board approved an interlocal agreement with the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Welfare and Supportive Services to fund the county’s District Attorney Child Support Division for fiscal years 2025–2029.
Steve Wright, the district attorney, told the board the state will pay Lyon County $2,651,519 for the period July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2029, to support child‑support services. Wright said the county’s child support office handles roughly 900 cases with five employees and that the state payment typically funds about two‑thirds of program operations with the county funding the remainder.
Wright provided history: federal funding for child support began in the 1950s and the 1975 amendment to the Social Security Act expanded federal assistance; Lyon County currently handles non‑public‑assistance cases after transferring public‑assistance cases to the state about 15 years ago.
Why it matters: The agreement secures predictable state funding for child‑support enforcement operations. Wright said that last year the office helped collect $3.6 million in child support for families in Lyon County and that collections through March 31 of the current fiscal year were about $963,000.
The board approved the interlocal agreement 5–0.
