The Panama City Planning Board on Feb. 19 completed a compatibility review and voted 5-0 to find a proposed hotel at 2627 Highway 77 compatible with surrounding uses, advancing the project to the commercial development-order stage.
Jim Salonino, representing the applicant, told the board the plans as filed are for a four‑story hotel with the potential to go to five stories later. "All buildings greater than 3 stories in the city require compatibility evaluation by the board," Salonino said.
Planning staff noted the compatibility finding does not replace required permits: the project must secure a commercial development order and comply with any conditions identified during that review. A staff member said additional conditions in the recommendation will be addressed during the development-order process.
The applicant identified the site as being across from the Kohl's at Highway 77; the owner is Arm Partners LLC and the applicant listed Panhandle Engineering. Board members voted by roll call: Carroll, Stamps, Barker, Rich and Chairman Neubauer all voted yes.
The compatibility finding confirms the project may proceed to the next regulatory step; building permits, design review and any mitigation required in the commercial development order will be handled in subsequent reviews.
