The Panama City CRA voted April 15 to approve renovations and upgrades at Henry Davis Park in the Downtown North district with a CRA contribution not to exceed $125,000. The Kiwanis Club committed a $145,000 donation for the playground portion of the project, staff said.
Staff explained that the park improvements were not originally in the FY25 work plan but were elevated in the Downtown North CRA social engagement as a community priority. The scope includes the playground (donated by Kiwanis), site amenities that support family use and smaller repairs that will improve accessibility and aesthetics. Staff noted the renovations complement the nearby MLK Recreation Center improvements and provide a playground option on the west side of Highway 77 so small children need not cross the highway to use MLK facilities.
Board members praised the community input and partner support. The board approved the project and the funding reallocation; staff will execute procurement and construction according to city procedures.
