Court administration and juvenile services staff briefed supervisors on two recurring state grant allocations from the Arizona Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC).
A court administration representative said the ‘‘fill the gap’’ grant from the AOC funds 0.6 of a pre-sentence investigator position. Pre-sentence investigators ‘‘conduct the interviews with defendants and victims and witnesses’’ and prepare reports judges receive before sentencing, the presenter said.
Separately, juvenile services staff (who said she recently changed her name to McNabb) requested that the board pass a resolution to accept AOC family-counseling funds. McNabb said the county would receive $11,960 and that the legislature requires a county match of $2,990; the match has already been provided in the county budget, she said.
McNabb said the family-counseling allocation is recurring and is used for prevention programs, including a Strengthening Families program run by juvenile officers and for contracted counseling services. Contracted counselors must hold an AOC contract to receive treatment funding; staff noted limited local availability of counselors and said some services are provided virtually or in other counties for out-of-home placements.
Both items were presented as informational during the agenda review; formal acceptance via board resolution for the family-counseling funds was requested.
