Library staff told the Laredo Library Advisory Committee that they had received mixed signals about federal-related support but had recent clarifications on two programs that affect operations.
A staff presenter said the library had been told it would not receive reimbursement for its interlibrary-loan courier service through the Texas State Library, but staff received an email the day before the meeting stating the library would receive a partial reimbursement. The presenter said a webinar the following day would provide more details.
The presenter also updated the committee on E‑Rate, the Federal Communications Commission discount program for Internet and large equipment. “This is something we rely on quite a bit,” the presenter said, noting E‑Rate can provide discounts of up to 90 percent on eligible services. The presenter said the library received confirmation of its discount for the current year.
Committee members asked whether the library was experiencing federal funding cuts. The presenter replied, “As of yet,” the library had not experienced cuts. Staff said they would monitor changes for the next fiscal year and report back to the committee.
The committee did not take formal action on funding during the meeting.
