Trustees approve emergency spending authority to replace lawn-bar countertops after federal wage rule raised contractor cost

Miller said the administration sought to take the item out of the general contract, obtain a credit from the contractor, and hire a local countertop vendor directly to reduce cost by about 40 percent.
Miller reported an estimate for the concrete countertops; at the meeting he stated a figure he described as "$1,617,000 dollars total for the concrete countertops," and explained that using local procurement and avoiding the Davis-Bacon-affected contract line reduced the total township cost. The trustees moved, seconded and unanimously approved dispensing with the second reading and adopting the resolution after the explanation.
Ending: The administration will proceed to purchase and install the concrete countertops using local contractors under the amended spending authority; the board directed staff to close out the portion of the Greybock contract that covered the removed countertops.
