Darius Palkos, director of the Division of Transportation Development, told STAC the Revitalizing Main Streets grant program — funded previously with ARPA and a smaller ongoing $7 million general fund transfer — is on pause because the FY2026 general fund transfer was removed from the budget.
“Current projects are not being affected,” Palkos said. He noted the program had awarded smaller grants (commonly $250,000 or less) and those existing awardees will continue under current agreements. Palkos said CDOT will not accept further applications at this time and that staff will share details with STAC members to avoid confusion.
Why it matters: the program supported complete‑streets, placemaking and small infrastructure projects that often help downtowns and main streets recover and improve multimodal access. Local staff emphasized that awarded projects will proceed, but new applicants should not expect future rounds until funding is restored.
Ending: CDOT staff said remaining awards from the most recent call will be completed and that the program is on indefinite pause pending future budget decisions.
