Haslet officials set May 2 ribbon-cutting for Keller/Haslet Road; TxDOT to add traffic signal within months

City staff told the Haslet Planning and Zoning Commission on April 29 that Keller/Haslet Road will have a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 2, with the road scheduled to open to traffic at 1 p.m. that same day.

Staff said the opening followed an outcry from Fort Worth residents concerned the new intersection with FM 156 would open without traffic signals. “TxDOT has committed to installing the signal lights and have that operational; their target is within 3 months,” a city staff member told the commission.

The commission also heard an update on Haslet Parkway construction. Staff reported that concrete work is complete to a point identified as Station 69 (near the alternative education facility on Schoolhouse Road) and that contractors continue grading, guardrail and bridge-related work. Staff said their target is to open Haslet Parkway to Station 69 by mid to late summer and that the Sweetgrass Boulevard connection has been poured to allow local access once that phase is open.

Separately, staff discussed a TxDOT suspension of another contract on the western extension that will be rebid; the timeline staff offered was tentative and could mean a year or more before TxDOT relets the contract, followed by a bidding process and mobilization. Staff described the multi-year timeline as an estimate and said there are no firm dates from TxDOT.

Why it matters: The road openings and signal commitment affect traffic flow and access for Haslet and neighboring Fort Worth neighborhoods and are key to planned local development connections, including the Sweetgrass and Blue Mound Road North corridors.
